I have a set of 1996 camaro dual elec. fan setup in my 1970. I demand to figure how many amps they describe to get the right controller.

I took both hot wires and tied them together, as well equally the ground wires. I hooked the ground to the bombardment. I used my meter, pictured below, to bank check amps.

I clamped around the hot wire, then touched it to the batt. +. I got a spike of 11-12amps, and so information technology immediately dropped off to effectually .5amps and stayed there. Does this sound right? Does anyone know how many amps these fans describe? The controller I am looking at has a thirty amp relay, but I desire to make certain it will work.

Am I checking for amps correct? How acurate are the meters with the clench on the end? Thanks Guys

I'm not familiar with your Fluke. Is information technology capable of checking DC amps? Many of them are capable of reading but Air conditioning amps.

Aceshigh
This says xiii.6 amps

It does say 57 amp temporary spike starting the high AND low speed fans at the aforementioned time.
How many times will you start loftier and low from 0rpm together.....I can't answer that.

I'd think yous'd have to have the automobile shut off with a really hot engine, and then plow the car
dorsum on to see both fans go from 0rpm up to ***rpm. I call back the best reply to your question
is to discover out what a 1998-2002 LS1 powered 4th gen uses for the fan circuit. :)

I run a ii speed Taurus fan with a 30amp machine reset circuit breaker which draws more amps and I never had an event.

I recall that on hot days you will need at least min. 2 x 25 amp relays, I ran with a single 30 amp fused relay on duel fans wired together, and it seemed to blow fuses and so I went with duel thirty amp relays i to each fan and I accept no more issues, mine can describe up to 25 amps each

clamping ammeters work fine. You're testing for a loftier amperage and so super fine accurateness is no large issue. Your numbers audio nigh right.

Thanks guys...this info helps alot.

My intrepid fans pulled right at 10 amps while running.

If you are worried, hook information technology up to a ten amp fuse, turn it on, if it blows well you know the respond.
Simply, 10-thirteen amps sounds most correct.

In the last yr mine have blown one 30Amp fuse and 1 xxx Amp relay. Fans are in apply virtually days.

I accept each fan wired separately with it's own relay and fuse.

I ended upward hooking an inline fuse to test the fans....10 amp blew instantly, 15 did the same, a twenty amp started the fans then blew, 25 amp ran the fans for a few seconds so blew, 30 amp ran without bravado. I think I will be ok with the controller I bought...information technology has a 45 amp fuse inline.
